Biochar Influences Phytochemical Concentrations of Viola cornuta Flowers

چکیده
Edible flowers are a rich source of phytochemicals with potential health benefits. Yet, changes in production practices can influence the phytochemical composition edible flowers. Practices such as addition biochar have been used to affect growing media properties well conserve peat resources. However, there is little known about how affects To determine if Viola cornuta, four cultivars were subjected different rates biochar, and without fertilizer. At rate 10% fertilizer application, flower polyphenol flavonoid concentrations decreased by 10–20% two cultivars. at 25% varied widely. When was added, no effects seen. Phytochemical characterization unfertilized plants further revealed that while increased reduced certain antioxidant compounds, these compounds when added. Overall, fertilization counteract some negative on cultivars, resulting higher nutritional quality an increase bioactive produced, providing ability replace moss biochar.

متن کاملNatural infection of Viola cornuta (Violaceae) with Cucumber mosaic virus, subgroup I.
Plants of Viola cornuta displaying typical virus symptoms were observed during spring 2003 in a plant nursery in Córdoba, central Argentina. Electron microscopic examinations of symptomatic leaf samples revealed the presence of isometric virus-like particles about 30 nm in diameter. Subsequent serological analysis allowed the identification of the pathogen as a subgroup I strain of Cucumber mos...

متن کاملDesigner, acidic biochar influences calcareous soil characteristics.
In a proof-of-concept study, an acidic (pH 5.8) biochar was created using a low pyrolysis temperature (350 °C) and steam activation (800 °C) to potentially improve the soil physicochemical status of an eroded calcareous soil. Biochar was added at 0%, 1%, 2%, and 10% (by wt.) and soils were destructively sampled at 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6 month intervals. Soil was analyzed for gravimetric water con...
